There are a number of items of equipment that a window cleaner uses to make his job easier, quicker and more reliable. The first of these would be the chamois. The professional quality leather chamois is a great tool for removing the small drops of water left on the window that could otherwise cause dirty stains when they dry. The chamois is an extremely absorbant piece of material that will dry to a streak free shine with ease. It is most often found in use when you are cleaning your car for exactly the same reason that it absorbs a lot of water without leave streaks.
What is the squeegee used for?
The squeegee is the best tool for use when cleaning windows. A soapy solution acts as a lubricant and breaks up the dirt, then the squeegee is used to draw the now water-borne dirt off the glass leaving a perfectly clean surface. The "swivel method", or "fan method" as it is referred to by professionals, uses a series of strokes combined with turns that hold the water away from the leading edge of the squeegee; when the turn is completed in the opposing direction, there is no water and no dirt left isolated. If a few spots are missed, a chamois leather cloth works better for touch up than a towel of cloth or paper.
What are ladders used for in window cleaning?
Ladders are a very important part to the window cleaners equipment because it allows them the flexibility of being able to clean windows on both stories without the need to intrude your home. Part of the reason why many people prefer to hire a window cleaner to clean their windows is because of the issue with height, especially on old properties, and accessibility. Most of the time a window cleaner will be able to clean all of your windows by some method or other. Window cleaners also provide a valuable service for the elderly as they are not going to be able to climb a large ladder to clean the upstairs windows.
For multi-story business blocks, window cleaning can become a little bit of an issue, especially those with thousands or windows because keeping them clean is not an easy task. Specialist window cleaners can be hired that use either a harness (for smaller jobs), or a lift contraption that is able to scale the largest buildings. Cleaning contracts like this can last for weeks, and some are hired on a permanent basis to ensure the windows are constantly kept clean.
For the lesser problematic large windows the window cleaner (with appropriate training) will be able to use a harness that is tied around the waist to lower themselves to the windows they need to clean. Because of the need for plenty of time to clean a larger number of windows, this harsh must be comfortable and very well secured. Sometimes a 'descender' will be attached to the rope on which the harness is attached that is able to control the window cleaners descent and ascent with a minimal amount of effort.
